Information (PPTX)

The piece was inspired by the repetitions in Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano sonata of the same name.

The entire range of tones in the piece comprises 84 semitones, divided into six central playing ranges of 14 semitones each per musician.

With the help of the Euclidean algorithm, a given number of pitches are distributed as evenly as possible within a certain range. This process results in scales that oscillate between a chromatic series and the open interval of the major ninth – sometimes dense and cluster-like, sometimes wide and transparent.

Based on these three principles—repetition, segmented tonal spaces, and algorithmically generated scales—the composition forms its structure through various stochastic processes using computer-assisted composition.
