As a synaesthetic interplay of images and sounds, one’s own history is an essential part of human identity. Triggered by similar situations, these sensory impressions can be released again and give rise to a feeling of the past, often blurred and unnamed, comparable to a faded photograph or words swallowed up by the wind in the distance. Memories mix with new experiences and thus become part of our present. In three similar sequences, the piece describes the search for this personal history, the images of the past in their various manifestations. The choreography makes use of poetic sign language, among other things, and deals with the myth of Narcissus and Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray.”
