In 1994 I wrote a Trio about the selective process in faded memory over time for Irvine Arditti and members of the Cologne ensemble. 7 years later I added another voice to it for a concert and 2008 another one for a CD production when i first noticed the 7 years distance. I realised that this row is going back to my birth year and took this as a symbol to add from this time on a voice every 7 years until it eventually turns into a completely blurred sort of soundscape. This is the 5th version of it in which the electronics were added.
Nachbild (Afterimage) is the fifth piece in the Schwinden series, in which an instrument is added every seven years, starting with the Trio d-is-appear. This version is supplemented by 8-channel live electronics.

An afterimage is a brief optical perception that occurs after staring at a strong light source or image and the original stimulus disappears; it can appear as a brighter spot (positive afterimage) or as an inverted image (negative afterimage) when the retina has become accustomed to the stimulus and the receptors become fatigued. It is an aftereffect of the sensory cells that the brain interprets when the actual source of the stimulus is no longer present, and is an example of an optical illusion.
